Service Life & Change Intervals (Technical Data)

Mercedes-Benz recommends replacing the oil filter at every engine oil service. The filter element is the primary defence against abrasive particles that cause premature wear to bearings, piston rings, timing chain, and turbocharger components.

Standard Recommended Interval:

  • Every engine oil change (15,000 km – 25,000 km under normal conditions, per ASSYST calculation)

Critical Adjustment for Kampala (Severe Operating Conditions):
The operational climate (ambient temperatures 20°C–40°C), high humidity, stop-and-go urban traffic, and high dust loads classify as “Severe Duty” per MB Work Instructions. Under these conditions, the filter media loads with soot and contaminants faster.

Recommended Replacement Interval under East African operating parameters:

  • Maximum: 10,000 km or 12 months (whichever occurs first)

  • Turbo-diesel units (OM651): Do not exceed 8,000 km under heavy urban taxi/fleet operation to prevent oil bypass (filter clogging) and turbocharger oil starvation

⚠️ Important: Always replace the filter element at every oil change. The filter element comes with integral rubber seals – ensure these are lubricated with fresh oil before installation to prevent seal damage.
