Specification Overview

Genuine Mercedes-Benz transmission oil cooler (heat exchanger). Manufactured in Germany by BEHR (BEHR Hella Service), a long-standing OEM partner and reliable supplier to Mercedes-Benz assembly lines. This component is a critical part of the automatic transmission cooling system, allowing transmission fluid to pass through the core, dropping the temperature of the fluid before it returns to the transmission. This prolongs fluid life and viscosity, as well as providing cooler fluid to drop transmission temperatures which can be vital to the life of a transmission.

  • Type: Automatic transmission oil cooler / heat exchanger

  • Position: Right side of vehicle

  • Material: Aluminum core with integrated oil passages

  • Manufacturer: BEHR (OEM supplier to Mercedes-Benz)

  • OE Numbers: A0995002300, 0995002300, 099-500-23-00

  • Supersession Information: Replaces A0995001100 and 0995001100

  • Country of Manufacture: Germany

⚠️ Important: The transmission oil cooler is located at the front of the vehicle, next to the main radiator. It is a critical component – failure can lead to transmission overheating and catastrophic damage.

Service Life & Failure Symptoms (Technical Data)

The transmission oil cooler is a critical component that should be inspected regularly for signs of failure.

Common Failure Symptoms – When to Replace:

  • Oil leaks around the cooler area – pooled transmission fluid on top of the cooler itself

  • Transmission overheating – high temperature readings on dashboard

  • Reduced transmission performance – slipping, harsh shifting

  • Oil contamination – coolant mixing with transmission fluid (internal failure)

Common Failure Points:

  • Perished O-rings at the pipe connections

  • Cracked cooler housing

  • Internal cooler failure (fluid mixing with coolant)

Service Note: If replacing the oil cooler, transmission fluid will need to be topped up. It is recommended to perform a full transmission service simultaneously.

Packaging & Pricing (Alps Autoz Kampala)

Packaging Genuine Part Number Price (UGX)
1 Unit (Transmission Oil Cooler) A0995002300 Inquire

Often Replaced Together:

  • Transmission fluid (MB 236.14 or MB 236.15, per transmission specification)

  • O-rings / seals for pipe connections

  • Transmission filter and pan gasket (if performing full service)

Technical Notes for the Workshop

  • Installation: Located at the front of the vehicle, next to the main radiator. Two metal pipes and two rubber hoses connect to the cooler. Wire clips hold the pipes in place – detach the little covers to pull them out.

  • Fluid Loss: Transmission fluid will escape when the cooler is disconnected, even with the engine off. Have a catch pan ready and top up fluid after installation.

  • Refill Procedure: Transmission fluid must be filled from the drain plug at the transmission sump. Follow the specific temperature-dependent fill procedure for your transmission model.

  • Genuine vs. Aftermarket: Genuine MB A0995002300 is manufactured by BEHR to OEM specifications. Equivalent aftermarket brands:

    • BEHR X1790005 (as shown on product label)

    • Vemo V30-60-1316

  • Storage: Store in a dry environment away from direct sunlight. Protect from physical damage.

  • Compatibility Note: This cooler is not compatible with vehicles without automatic transmissions. Always verify by VIN before ordering.
