Specification Overview
High-performance, 100% synthetic low-SAPS (Sulfated Ash, Phosphorus, Sulfur) engine oil developed specifically for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Formulated to meet the severe thermal degradation requirements of modern injection systems while providing full compatibility with exhaust after-treatment systems (DPF, TWC, SCR).

Application & Engine Fitment
This specification is mandatory for Euro 6 and late Euro 5 BlueTEC diesel engines with DPF, and is factory-fill for the current generation of turbocharged petrol engines.
Diesel Applications (Engine Codes):
-
OM651 (2.1L CDI) – Fits W204, W212, W166, W906 (Sprinter), X204 (GLK)
-
OM642 (3.0L V6 CDI) – Fits W164, W166, W221, W212, W906, W463 (G350 BlueTEC)
-
OM654 (2.0L) – Fits W205, W213, X253, W167 (Current generation 2019+)
Petrol Applications (Engine Codes):
-
M274 (2.0L Turbo) – Fits W205 C-Class, W213 E-Class, X253 GLC
-
M276 (3.5L V6) – Fits W212, W218, X253, R172 (SLK/SLC)
-
M270 (1.6L / 2.0L Turbo) – Fits W246 B-Class, W176 A-Class
Backward Compatibility:
Fully interchangeable with MB 229.5, 229.51, and 229.31. However, do not use in engines without DPF that explicitly require high-SAPS MB 229.5 (pre-2006 M272/M273) as it may reduce long-term wear protection in those specific older units.
Service Life & Change Intervals (Technical Data)
Based on Mercedes-Benz Operating Fluids Guidelines (Sheet 223.2), the standard oil change interval is 15,000 km to 25,000 km (depending on on-board ASSYST calculation) under normal European/American highway conditions.
Critical Adjustment for Kampala (Severe Operating Conditions):
The operational climate (ambient temperatures 20°C–40°C), high humidity, stop-and-go urban traffic, and high dust loads classify as “Severe Duty” per MB Work Instructions. Under these conditions, the oil’s TBN (Total Base Number) depletes faster.
Recommended Drain Interval under East African operating parameters:
-
Maximum: 10,000 km or 1 year (whichever occurs first).
-
Turbo-diesel units (OM642/OM651): Do not exceed 8,000 km under urban taxi/fleet operation to prevent turbo coking and timing chain tensioner wear.

Technical Notes for the Workshop
-
Mixing: Miscible with other synthetic motor oils meeting ACEA C3, but to maintain the approved 229.52 status, a full flush is recommended before switching from MB 229.5.
-
Storage: Shelf life of 5 years in unopened, sealed packaging. Store below 40°C away from direct sunlight.
